Philips Respironics DreamStation is Philips’ flagship device for treating sleep apnoea. It is the latest, improved range designed to be as comfortable and easy to experience for patients to help them achieve restful and restorative sleep. The Philips DreamStation device empower users to embrace their sleep care with confidence and ease.

The Philips Respironics DreamStation range carries 3 types of CPAP machines, these include:

  1. Fixed Pressure CPAP - This is a device that delivers a constant air pressure to treat sleep apnoea. This pressure is usually pre-determined by a specialist/clinician via a pressure determination test.

  1. Automatic Pressure CPAP (APAP) - This is a newer and more innovative type of CPAP machine compared to its fixed pressure counterparts. The Automatic devices were invented primarily with the purpose of improving patient compliance. Optimal therapy is achieved by automatically providing the patient with the minimum pressure required to maintain an unobstructed airway on a breath-by-breath basis.

  1. BiPAP (Bi-level, VPAP or Non-Invasive Ventilation) – This device delivers one pressure during inhalation and another pressure during exhalation. These machines are usually used by patients who require higher pressures or if patients have respiratory or cardiac failure due to illness. They can sometimes be used for patients who are unable to tolerate against breathing out using a CPAP machine. However this must be done under the care of a specialist/clinician.

Philips Respironics DreamStation is designed to empower patients and facilitate easier CPAP therapy adoption through the following features:

Patient driven design

Winner of the 2016 iF Design Award, the Philips Respironics DreamStation has a sleek, stylish, low-profile design offering important features taken from patient’s feedbacks. It is small and light, making it easy to pack for travelling. The DreamStation features easy-to-navigate menus, a front-facing display that can be operated while lying down or sitting up in bed as well as an easy-to-clean, one-piece humidifier water chamber.

Acclimation made easy

Philips Respironics DreamStation includes a set of tools to help make it easy for patients starting PAP therapy and for their continued long-term use. EZ-Start can help patients gradually acclimate to therapy, while Smart-Ramp allows users to fall asleep to lower pressures. The DreamStation devices also comes with Flex Pressure Relief technology that helps mimic the user’s natural breathing patterns by lowering the pressure upon exhalation.

Bluetooth and Cellular Connectivity

Integrated Bluetooth® is standard on every Philips DreamStation device which means that patients are able to monitor their own progress by connecting their device to the free DreamMapper app. The app will provide them with a summary of their progress to motivate them to stick with their therapy. DreamMapper provides goal-setting tools, helpful videos and ongoing feedback to keep patients motivated and engaged. Optional Wi-Fi and Cellular modems can be added at your choice to allow your specialist/clinician to access remote data transmission from your machine. This feature allows them to facilitate remote monitoring, wireless setting and prescription changes and provide better engagement for your CPAP treatment.

Heated Humidifier and Heated Tube

The Philips Respironics DreamStation incorporates a detachable heated humidifier and heated tube system that allows the user to remove during travelling to make the unit more portable. The heated humidifier features a dry box technology to help reduce the chance of water entering the machine from the humidifier. The level of humidity and the level of tube temperature can be easily adjusted by the user between settings of 0 to 5 with 0 meaning it is turned off and 5 being the maximum heat/humidity. By having a humidifier and heated tube system attached to your CPAP device, it provides added comfort to your CPAP therapy.

Added Advance Features

The Philips Respironics DreamStation device have other added advance features. The Auto On/Off can detect user breathing through the mask and will begin or stop CPAP therapy accordingly if enabled by the provider. Users are able to perform Mask Fit Checks through a function in the menu that enables leakage detection prior to starting therapy so that your mask is properly fitted to your face each night.
