ResMed AirCurve 11 VAuto
Frequently Asked Questions
The ResMed AirCurve 11 VAuto is an auto-adjusting bilevel PAP device designed for people with obstructive sleep apnoea (OSA). Unlike standard CPAP, it delivers two pressure levels: a higher inspiratory pressure (IPAP) when you breathe in and a lower expiratory pressure (EPAP) when you breathe out. In VAuto mode, the device automatically adjusts EPAP in response to your breathing while maintaining fixed pressure support.
The AirCurve 11 VAuto is designed for people with Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) who have been prescribed bilevel therapy. It may be used when additional pressure support or greater breathing comfort is required, including for some people who find standard CPAP or APAP therapy challenging. Your doctor or sleep clinician can determine which type of PAP therapy is appropriate for you.
The AirSense 11 AutoSet provides single-level CPAP/APAP therapy, whereas the AirCurve 11 VAuto provides bilevel therapy with separate inspiratory and expiratory pressures. The AirCurve 11 can therefore provide additional pressure support between inhalation and exhalation. Both are part of ResMed's Air11 platform and include features such as touchscreen controls, myAir support and connected technology.
VAuto is ResMed's auto-adjusting bilevel therapy mode. It maintains fixed pressure support while automatically adjusting expiratory pressure within the prescribed range in response to flow limitation, snoring and obstructive apnoeas.
Bi-level therapy, also known as bilevel positive airway pressure (PAP) therapy, delivers two different levels of air pressure as you breathe: a higher pressure when you breathe in (IPAP) and a lower pressure when you breathe out (EPAP). The difference between these pressures is called pressure support. By reducing pressure during exhalation while providing greater support during inhalation, bi-level therapy can provide additional breathing support and comfort for people who have been prescribed this type of PAP therapy.
IPAP stands for Inspiratory Positive Airway Pressure and is the pressure delivered when you breathe in. EPAP stands for Expiratory Positive Airway Pressure and is the pressure delivered when you breathe out. The difference between these two pressures is known as pressure support.
Yes. In VAuto mode, the device monitors your breathing and automatically adjusts EPAP within the prescribed pressure range in response to events such as flow limitation, snoring and obstructive apnoeas. Pressure support remains fixed according to your prescribed settings.
ResMed's Easy-Breathe™ waveform is designed to recreate the shape of your natural breathing pattern, providing smoother transitions between inspiratory and expiratory pressure for a more natural breathing experience.
Trigger and Cycle settings determine how sensitively the AirCurve 11 detects the beginning and end of each breath. TiControl™ allows minimum and maximum inspiratory time limits to be set to help support synchronisation between your breathing and the device. These therapy settings should be configured according to your individual treatment requirements.
Yes. The AirCurve 11 VAuto includes a HumidAir™ 11 humidifier tub and supports heated humidification to add moisture to the air during therapy.
Yes. Humidification is a comfort feature and can be turned off if it isn't required. Your treatment consultant or healthcare provider can help you find a comfortable setup for your therapy.
The AirCurve 11 VAuto can be used with compatible vented PAP masks, including nasal, nasal pillow and full-face mask options. The best mask depends on factors including your breathing habits, prescribed therapy and personal comfort.
Yes. People who regularly breathe through their mouth during sleep may benefit from an appropriate full-face mask, which delivers therapy through both the nose and mouth. Mask selection should be based on your individual therapy and comfort requirements.
The AirCurve 11 VAuto is compatible with ResMed ClimateLineAir™ 11 heated tubing and SlimLine™ tubing. ClimateLineAir 11 works with the device's humidification system to support comfortable temperature and humidity during therapy.
Regular cleaning should be carried out according to ResMed's instructions for use. Components such as the humidifier tub, tubing, mask and air filter have their own cleaning or replacement requirements. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions supplied with your equipment.
