A blocked nose or nasal dryness can be a constant source of discomfort and annoyance. Nasal and sinus care is the key to relieving the irritating symptoms of a common cold, hay fever, or nasal dryness caused by air-conditioning or medical treatments. Using a nasal dropper, spray, or sinus wash can help relieve congestion or nasal dryness and help support your nose’s natural actions.

What can cause nasal dryness?
Your nose can become dry, crusty and irritate for a variety of reasons including:
- during /after the common cold
- while using medical devices which deliver air into the nasal passages
- while using medicated nasal medications
- in low humidity environments, e.g. air-conditioning, aircraft cabins
- while using certain medications e.g. the treatment of acne
- in older people due to natural changes in nasal tissues and the shape inside the nose
- after nasal surgery
When your nose is dry and crusty, your nasal tissues cannot function normally, and you may also experience nose bleeds. To prevent this, sprays and drops such as Flo Nozoil, or Flo Travel spray can be used to moisturise and relieve dry nasal tissues.
Options for relieving nasal dryness
There are several options available to help relieve nasal dryness. Nozoil drops or spray have been proven through clinical trials to effectively relieve dry and crusting nasal tissue. Nozoil contains sesame seed oil which moisturises nasal tissues. This not only supports the functioning of the nasal tissues, but protects them from drying air streams to help protect healing tissues.
Alternatively, you can use Flo Travel Nasal Spray as a preventative measure, which contains Carrageenan, a natural extract of red seaweed. Carrageenan helps your nasal tissues to retain moisture to prevent them from drying out.
What can cause nasal congestion?
Nasal congestion can be caused by a variety of issues, including colds, hay fever, allergies, or irritants. These can leave you with a stuffy or runny nose, as well as sinus pain. Using a saline spray or wash can help to clear a blocked or runny nose and give you relief.
Options for relieving congestion
There are several options available to help relieve nasal dryness. For a non-medicated, preservative-free solution, you can use Flo Saline Plus spray. This saline spray can gently wash and thin excess mucus to help clear you nose, taking irritants and germs away with it.
For a more thorough cleansing, you can use the Flo Sinus Care kit – Australia’s number 1 Sinus wash. Flo Sinus Care solution closely resembles the body’s own tissue fluids, and is delivered effectively by the Flo Sinus care bottle.
How to use a nasal spray
For nasal sprays to work effectively, it is important to make sure you use them properly. When using a nasal spray, insert the tip into your nostril and point it towards your earlobe on the same side. Pointing the nasal spray up, or towards the septum will prevent the solution from reaching as much of your nasal tissues. Inhaling gently after using a nasal spray can also help distribute the spray effectively. Always follow the directions for use provided.
