Different Roadmaps To Freedom: NSW Vs VIC

September 20, 2021

Both NSW and Victoria are pursuing high vaccination rates so that the states can reopen and learn to live with COVID-19. Restrictions will ease significantly for vaccinated people once 70% double-dose targets are hit – but this will look quite different between the two states.

When NSW hits 70% double vaccinated, the following will be allowed: home visits of up to 5 visitors, reopening of hospitality and retail with square metre rules, gyms, swimming pools and ticketed and outdoor seated events of up to 500 people.

Victoria is taking a more conservative approach, avoiding easing too many indoor restrictions at 70%. Victoria will allow hospitality and retail to operate outdoors only, outdoor pools will reopen with a 50 person cap, and outdoor ticketed and seated events with a 50 person cap.

Currently, NSW is set to hit 70% around October 8, and Victoria around October 26. Both Premier Daniel Andrews and Gladys Berejiklian have been clear these freedoms will only apply to vaccinated people.
