European Regulator Finds Astrazeneca Vaccine Safe

EMA chief Emer Cooke has declared AstraZeneca “a safe and effective vaccine.” The EMA found that the number of thromboembolic events (clotting issues) was lower than what would normally be expected in the general population. Approximately 100,000 people develop blood clots every month in the EU – so far, only 469 events have been reported after vaccination during the trials and rollout of AstraZeneca.

Over 10 countries paused the rollout whilst the EMA reviewed the vaccine, which are now under pressure to restart the rollout as soon as possible. The rollout was not paused in Australia, where the AstraZeneca jab will make up the vast majority of vaccines used.
