Fully Vaccinated Close Contacts Could Be Exempt From Self-isolating Soon

September 17, 2021

NSW could relax isolation rules soon for close contacts as we work towards living with the virus. Close contacts of people with COVID-19 could avoid the 14 day self-isolation period if they are fully vaccinated and test negative. There is hope that this could stop huge staff shortages in hospitals and other essential workplaces.

In August, the UK stopped requiring vaccinated close contacts to self-isolated provided they tested negative. However, unvaccinated people are still required to self-quarantine for 10 days if identified as a close contact. NSW deputy chief health officer Marianne Gale said NSW is currently looking at the international advice and results as they move forward.
