Mandatory COVID-19 Vaccinations For NSW Healthcare Workers

August 20, 2021

COVID-19 vaccination will soon be mandatory for all health workers. The new public health order will be signed in the following days, having reached an agreement with the state’s major medical groups. The current proposal would require all health care workers to have received their first dose by September 30 and second by November 30.

Currently, it is already mandatory for health staff in high-risk areas to have an annual flu vaccine, and front-line staff must also have received a measles, diphtheria, tetanus, whooping cough and chickenpox vaccine. COVID-19 vaccination will now be added to the list, after a COVID-19 transmission event in a hospital has occurred every day for the past 2 weeks.

The mandate will apply to doctors, nurses and other health staff, as well as cleaners, admin staff and any other worker in a front-facing role unless they lodge a certified medical reason by mid September.
