Over 50 Passengers From India Test Positive To Covid-19 After Flight

April 28, 2021

In a situation that has baffled experts, 52 passengers on a flight from India to Hong Kong have tested positive to COVID-19, despite testing negative before boarding. During Hong Kong’s mandatory 3-week quarantine period, over a third of the total passengers have tested positive. The airline has reported that it complied with all health guidelines.

It is possible that a particularly virulent strain could be behind this outbreak, as India battles innumerable cases. Australia has now completely stopped all flights from India to Australia. The government has also pledged to send through much needed medical supplies, including an initial package of 500 ventilators, 100 oxygen concentrators, 1 million surgical masks, 500,000 P2 and N95 masks, 100,000 surgical gowns, 100,000 goggles, 100,000 pairs of gloves and 20,000 face shields. India’s official tally is over 17.3 million cases, and 195,123 deaths, although even these figures are probably lower than the true numbers.
