Potential COVID-19 Treatment Removes 99% Of Virus From Mice

Researchers from Australia and the US have developed a new antiviral that reduced the amount of coronavirus in infected mice by 99%. The antiviral uses gene-silencing RNA technology, which finds the viral genome and destroys it so the virus can’t replicate anymore.

Currently, there are no therapies targeted to the COVID-19 virus. If this treatment works in humans, it could be life-saving for people suffering from COVID-19 where vaccines are too late. Although the results are promising, clinical trials (and funding for clinical trials) will be needed to see if the treatment can work in humans.
