Primary School Kids Could Get COVID Vaccines Soon

September 13, 2021

Pfizer-BioNtech will be seeking approval from regulators to give smaller doses of the Pfizer vaccine to children aged 5 – 11. They could be vaccinated within months as the rollout grows in Australia. Pfizer’s clinical trials with children under 12 started earlier this year in March.

Director of infectious diseases at Mater Health Services, Associate Professor Paul Griffin, explained that it’s important everyone gets vaccinated, including kids. “While children don’t get too unwell with this virus they certainly can get it and they certainly can pass it on.” With children under the age of 15 making up 26% of the global population, safely vaccinating children will be an important step in fighting this pandemic.
