Sydney Lockdown Likely To End September

New modelling from the Populations Intervention Unit at the University of Melbourne has shown that it could take until the first week of September for the Sydney lockdown to end. With Stage 4 restrictions now in place, the model shows we would drop below 5 cases a day by September 4.

The model was originally developed for the Victorian government in 2020, and is now the third model released showing Sydney’s lockdown is likely to continue through August. It takes into account the greater infectiousness of the Delta variant, as well as Sydney’s restrictions and population data. Our best way forward to ending this lockdown faster is to comply with the public health orders, stay at home, and get vaccinated.
