Catchy COVID Vaccine Ads From NZ & Singapore - Lessons For Australia

May 20, 2021

Both the New Zealand and Singapore government have rolled out funny and informative ads encouraging citizens to get their COVID-19 jab. Both use every day local language, and address concerns of the community. Should Australia be following suit?

Currently, Australia’s ad campaigns for the COVID-19 vaccines have been very sober, although very little has been released since January. Professor Kirsten McCaffery, director of the Sydney Health Literacy Lab, has hailed both NZ and Singapore ads as strong examples of communication. “We need more of this kind of creative communication which takes into account understanding of community concerns and perspectives and presents it in an entertaining and engaging format.” Particular given the slow uptake of vaccines, it will be important for the government to creatively address the concerns of citizens.
