COVID-19 Virus Survives 28 Days on Your Phone

November 11, 2020

A recent study published by the CSIRO in Australia found that the COVID-19 virus can survive for up to 28 days on surfaces like banknotes and glass – including your mobile phone screens. The researchers found that lower temperatures and smoother surfaces (such as glass rather than cotton) helped the virus to last longer. One of the lead researchers, Dr Eagles said, “Our results show that SARS-CoV-2 can remain infectious on surfaces for long periods of time, reinforcing the need for good practices such as regular handwashing and cleaning surfaces.” To view the study, click here

Having good hand hygiene and regularly cleaning high touch surfaces is a crucial step in keeping Australia safe. Make sure you have hand sanitiser, alcohol wipes or disinfectant wipes available to help break the cycle of transmission.
