Boost Your Therapy with the Latest CPAP Devices August 4, 2025 If you’ve been living with sleep apnea, you already know how life-changing continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy can be. A good night’s sleep can mean more energy, sharper thinking, and better overall health. But what if your therapy could be even better simply by upgrading to a newer device? That’s exactly what a recent multicentre study out of Japan explored, focusing on patients who switched from older CPAP models to the latest ResMed AirSense 11 devices.1 The results were impressive. Better Comfort, Better Use One of the key findings was a drop in the average pressure needed to keep airways open – from 8.1 to 7.4 cmH₂O.1 That might not sound like much, but for CPAP users, even small changes in pressure can mean a big difference in comfort. Less pressure often translates to less discomfort and a more natural breathing experience. Leaks – those pesky air escapes that can wake you up or make the mask feel less secure – also improved significantly. The study showed that leak rates dropped from 25.2 L/min to 21.9 L/min, meaning patients experienced a tighter, more reliable seal.1 And perhaps most importantly, people were using their CPAP machines more. Time spent using CPAP for at least four hours a night increased from 86% to 90%.1 Better comfort often leads to better consistency – and with CPAP, consistency is key to feeling the benefits. Sleep Quality Remains Strong Interestingly, the study found that despite lower pressure, the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) – a measure of how many breathing interruptions occur per hour – stayed just as low as before.1 In other words, patients enjoyed the same quality of treatment, but with a more comfortable and user-friendly experience. While this study focused on ResMed devices, we believe the findings are likely relevant to other comparable models across different manufacturers. Why Consider an Upgrade? Technology evolves quickly, and CPAP devices are no exception. Modern devices offer improved algorithms and sleek designs that fit more comfortably into your nightly routine. If you’ve been using the same machine for years, an upgrade could mean better comfort and a greater chance of long-term success with your therapy. Take the Next Step If you’re living with sleep apnea and already using CPAP therapy, it might be worth discussing an upgrade with your healthcare provider or CPAP supplier. Better comfort and improved usability can make a real difference to how you feel each morning. If you’re noticing discomfort, mask leaks, or struggling to stick with your therapy, talk to your doctor about your options. Your sleep – and your health – are worth it.
