The importance of relaxing after work – how we are doing it wrong

With the crazy and stressful nature of our workdays, it is common to feel exhausted and fatigue despite feeling getting enough sleep and rest. Many of us can’t relax because we have anticipatory stress, ready to jump straight back into work, or have unfinished tasks we can’t take our mind off. This stress and pre-occupation is damaging to our ability to unwind.

Good quality rest requires 3 key elements: 1. Relaxing your mind – try creating a clear transition between work and non-work time. This could include shifting leftover tasks to a to-do list, and closing your laptop, or moving to a different room. 2. Relaxing your body – meditation, exercise or deep breathing can help your body to relax after a work day. 3. Relaxing your expectations – it’s important to make it clear to others what your work hours are and how you will respond outside of these hours.
