How is COVID-19 Transmitted – and How Do I Protect Myself?
We are seeing COVID-19 spread to millions of people around the globe – but how exactly is it spreading?
COVID-19 spreads through droplets released from the mouth or nose of an infected person. These can be released when they cough, sneeze, speak or sing for example. If these droplets make their way into the mouth, nose or eyes of another person, they can infect them. The virus can spread even before someone starts showing symptoms.
This why it is important to always take measures to protect yourself. To help stop the spread of COVID-19: 1. Cover your coughs and sneezes 2. Wear a mask when social distancing is difficult 3. Wash your hands regularly and thoroughly – use the World Health Organisation Handwashing guide 4. Regularly disinfect high-touch surfaces 5. Try to minimise the amount you touch your face
