No Jab, No Work For Frontline Public Aged Care Workers

Public sector aged care workers in Victoria will now have to be vaccinated against COVID-19 if performing front-line duties. Any frontline staff who haven’t been vaccinated will be stood down from front-line duties to protect Victoria’s most vulnerable amidst the latest COVID-19 outbreak. Currently, two aged care facilities have recorded cases amongst workers: Arcare Maidstone and BlueCross Western Gardens.

In March last year, the Andrews government passed a mandatory vaccination law for health and aged care workers, but these laws haven’t been used yet to push vaccination in these sectors. Unfortunately, it is unclear how many aged care workers have been vaccinated as most work in private nursing homes. We hope that all health and aged care workers can be vaccinated as soon as possible to stop another aged care outbreak.
