Pfizer Vaccine Can Stay At Normal Freezer Temperatures For Up To 2 Weeks

April 13, 2021

The Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA) announced late last week that Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine can now be stored and transported at normal freezer temperatures for up to 2 weeks (-15C to -25C). It can also be kept unopened at normal fridge temperatures for 5 days. This is a huge step forward in enabling the Pfizer vaccine to be distributed more widely.

Previously, the Pfizer vaccine had to be stored between -60C and -90C, making transport and storage a logistical nightmare. However, new data from Pfizer has shown that the vaccine can stay stable for short periods of time at higher temperatures. The US and European regulators have already approved these storage changes. This should make for an easier rollout of the Pfizer vaccine, particular for under 50s.
