5 Things to Consider When Choosing a Sleep Study Provider

July 2, 2025

If you've been waking up tired, snoring loudly, or struggling with daytime sleepiness, a sleep study might be the key to getting your energy—and your life—back on track. But with so many providers out there, how do you choose the right one? Here are five important things to consider when picking a sleep study provider, especially if you're concerned about obstructive sleep apnea (OSA).

1. What is the wait time?

Getting a sleep study through a public hospital might be free under Medicare, but the wait can be long—up to a year in some cases. Private sleep clinics often have shorter wait times but usually come with a price tag of $300 to $400 or more.

Sove CPAP offers a balanced solution: fast access and no out-of-pocket costs for eligible patients. Our home sleep studies are bulk billed through Medicare, meaning you don’t pay anything if you meet the eligibility criteria. You can typically get booked within 1–2 weeks, with results available soon after.

2. Is there physician supervision?

You want to know that your sleep study is being handled by experts. At Sove CPAP, every step is supervised by Sleep & Respiratory physicians. You can first have a bulk-billed telehealth appointment with one of these specialists, who will then analyse your sleep study results to guide any treatment recommendations.

3. Does the service provide a lab or at-home sleep study?

Let’s be honest—no one wants to sleep in a hospital bed if they don’t have to. That’s why Sove CPAP offers at-home sleep studies using the Falcon HST device. It takes just 20 minutes to set up during an appointment, and then you sleep in the comfort of your own bed. You return the device the next morning – simple as that. At-home sleep study devices have 88.5% accuracy and 94% sensitivity for detecting OSA.1

The Falcon HST is an advanced diagnostic tool, capturing signals like oxygen levels, airflow, heart rate, brain waves, and more.

If needed, Sove can also organise a lab-based sleep study after reviewing your case with a physician.

4. How independent is the provider?

It’s important to know that your doctor is recommending what’s best for you—not what benefits them financially. At Sove CPAP, physicians are not allowed to receive any financial benefit from the treatment they prescribe. That means their advice is always in your best interest.

5. Does your diagnostic company provide treatment?

A good sleep study provider won’t leave you hanging once you get your results. At Sove CPAP, if you’re diagnosed with sleep apnea, you’ll be contacted to arrange treatment. This could include CPAP therapy, mandibular advancement splints, positional devices, or lifestyle changes like weight loss. Plus, Sove offers a range of CPAP brands including ResMed, Fisher & Paykel, and Philips to give you more choice and flexibility.

Don’t put sleep—and your health—on the backburner.

If you’re struggling with fatigue, snoring, or other sleep issues, speak to your GP or contact Sove CPAP directly to see if you’re eligible for a bulk billed home sleep study. Getting the right diagnosis could be the first step toward feeling like yourself again.
