Your Sleep Apnea May Be Affecting The Tone Of Your Emails
It is well known that sleep apnea can leave you feeling tired and grouchy due to a lack of sleep, but a recent study shows that you may also come across as a cranky employee.
According to a Journal of Occupational Health Psychology study, a lack of sleep contributes to an increase in disrespectful and inconsiderate emails.
Sleep apnea can affect your mood, irritability and decision-making processes. Running off poor quality sleep can make it difficult to watch your words, often leading to passive-aggressive responses. A lack of sleep can also limit your ability to recognize the insensitive nature of your emails. While some recipients can easily brush off these emails, others can be more seriously affected.
It is very difficult to delete what you send out in the workplace, and the consequences can be serious. If your mental clarity is affected by your sleep apnea, or if you experience excessive tiredness at work, speak with your doctor about ways to improve your sleep - and professionalism.
