Home Sleep Study (Medicare Rebate Available)

What is a Home-Based Sleep Study?

A home-based sleep study involves the use of a take-home sleep study machine for the purpose of diagnosing sleep disordered breathing (e.g. sleep apnoea). Patients attend a clinic, where a trained technician “hooks up” the patient, by applying a series of sensors and attaching a portable monitor.

The test is Medicare funded and bulk billed if Medicare Criteria are met.

Who is it for?

The Home-Based Study is sometimes preferred to the In-Lab Study as you can sleep in the comfort of your own bed. It is best used on patients who are well enough to travel and have a moderate-to-high risk of uncomplicated sleep apnoea, as determined by their treating health professional.

How do I book?

First you will need a referral from your GP or specialist. Once we receive your referral, Centurion Healthcare staff will contact you to arrange for an appointment. You can find a copy of Centurion Healthcare’s referral form here. There are some criteria you must meet in order to qualify for the Medicare rebate, which can be found on the referral.

I’ve completed my test. What now?

When you wake up in the morning having had your test, simply remove the wires and place the unit into the bag provided. Please then arrange return of the unit to one of Centurion’s centres. A report will be available within 10 business days and sent to your referring practitioner. We will contact you to let you know that the report is ready.

How do I know whether I have booked the appropriate sleep study for myself?

Once you have ordered a sleep study, you will be contacted by one of our Consultants who will assess your Medicare eligibility (if required) and book a suitable date and time with you.

What if I don’t know which sleep study type to pick?

That’s ok. Our Consultants are here to help. Call us on 1300 76 29 39 and a Consultant will talk to you about your requirements, and help you determine which sleep study will suit you best.

Alternatively, your family doctor will be able to assist you also.

How independent and reliable are my sleep study results?

Sove CPAP Clinic facilitates sleep study bookings (Type 1, 2 and 3) on behalf of Centurion Healthcare. All sleep studies are reported by independent sleep specialists who are not affiliated with Sove CPAP Clinic.

Centurion Healthcare has a well-regarded physician team that includes Respiratory Heads of Departments at major public hospitals and former President and Secretary of the Thoracic Society of Australia and New Zealand.

Centurion Healthcare provides universal bulk billing for in-lab sleep studies (available in NSW only) and Type 2 home sleep studies (available in NSW, VIC and QLD) with minimal wait time. Medicare criteria apply.

What if I have questions?
